I’ve seen this picture with over 2,000 notes when it had no message of the terrible injustice happening to him right now. If you posted it then, please post it now. Let’s help this family get the word out! I can’t even imagine how I’d feel if this was happening to my Marine son.

But, the homepage doesn’t actually talk about the charges, just gives a history of his service and his dedication to the Corps. Seems like the site is an opportunity to address why the charges are wrong or unfounded.

I’d appreciate the site having some sort of reference as to why the USMC stated they would charge him with all of that, seems like they threw the book at him. Damn scary I’ve gotta imagine, knowing you’re doing the right thing in the moment and having someone armchair quarterback it from the NMCC.

Getting back to basics, Lloyd Donaldson of Scion Next Generation Biomaterials in Rotorua, New Zealand, snapped this image of simple cotton fibers stained with berberine sulfate, a plant-based extract, and color-depth shaded. The loose strands were taken on a confocal fluorescence scope at 200 times the size of a normal weave.

This is every bus in LA County, from just before 07:00 to about 09:30, collected every 7 minutes using the Metro Transit Authority’s awesome developer tools. It’s an initial effort to look at the way that populations have changed and what trends the transportation has followed. I’m using Tableau Desktop here to explore the data.

Kind of sad. Facebook is not interested in users since it has its critical mass. Not sure I’m believing it was a miscommunication.

They have to have had specific business goals in mind when they added that language. Owned by a billion-dollar company, their lawyers are some of the best in the country and were very explicit in the reason they wrote what they wrote.

It doesn’t help that his “Legal documents are easy to misinterpret” comment is terse and insulting.

Instagram Blog: Thank you, and we're listening: I’m sorry, but they shouldn’t have used Facebook’s lawyers to write these changes. It screams of the same sort of foot-in-the-door tactics used on the larger social network. “We know we said those things, but we’re listening, and look, we’ll drop the language in this one part altogether.” How much analysis was done to these changes, where 18 hours later the company just dropped the language altogether? How useless was it for future planned functionality that they didn’t care to even defend it? That’s a bigger part of what scares me about this. It would seem either they’re sloppy, or something bigger is afoot here. “Instagram users own their content”, but do we really? It’s not on our machines. I’m sure no one has really read the EULA. What license do we give Instagram for the convenience of storing our photos on their servers? I’m dropping my account for now. Maybe I’ll make a new one later, but not until they get their act together.
